Yoga Spotlight - Kino MacGregor.. Founder of Miami Life CenterSubscribe to our blog: OM MY BLOG
“Put in the work and enjoy the ride”, says Kino MacGregor at the 2010 Yoga Journal Conference last weekend.. I had the ultimate pleasure to enjoy 2 classes with Kino who put it quite simply as she led us through our opening morning chant.

“even though you may not know the sanskrit words you can still feel the vibrations going through you as you attempt to call and answer the mantra”.

Kino MacGregor is the youngest person to have studied with Sri Pattobi Jois in Mysore India and is trained by Pattobi Jois to teach Ashtanga.. Kino illuminates pure energy as she describes her experiences with her Gershi as she lovingly describes her Guru. She tells us that strength comes from the decision to open your mind and heart and the willingness to put in the work no matter how long it takes.

We must have an intention to want to tap into an eternal place in which to grow and learn.

Kino breaks down the asanas to give us “small digestable bits” in which for us to learn about the proper foundation for inversions. Once you press your finger pads and palm into the earth with intention one can pour their weight into their hands to tranfer again into the arms with Mula Bandha engaged the yogi can lift lightly and with intention into any strength or inverting pose with ease.

“RESPECT YOUR EDGE” says Kino who tells us that if we make 1% change in our practice on a regular basis we too will achieve the ability to expand our horizons and see a slow and steady transformation.

Kino is playful, joyous as she shares the beauty of the her knowlege of her yoga journey while giving important modifications to students of all abilities.

“When you build a solid foundation you will OWN THE POSTURE”.

As we continue on the long journey that is our life it is important that we keep building our spiritual strength as well as our physical strength to lead us to the eternal place inside ourselves.

The most important thing I think I took from this experience is that if I am ever doubting of myself or my practice I can go back to this statement.

“every posture pushes you to your edge.. stay the course of your path and let it expand your life”.

Anyone who has not had the pleasure to experience a class with Kino must try and practice with her. Kino founded the Miami Life Center with her husband Tim Feldman and together with a host of wonderful teachers have established a center steeped in culture and knowledge. Anyone visiting the Miami area should make time to take a class at the center.. It will change your life.
